SUMMARY:Lessons from the Field in Reducing Child Abuse through Community-Based Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:Register \n \n Learn about what it takes to address child abuse fatalities through a collaborative\, community-based approach. For nearly four years\, five different sites located across the country have been working to advance child and family well-being systems and shared responsibility in their communities. \nThrough Child Safety Forward\, a demonstration initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Justice\, Office for Victims of Crime\, the five sites and Social Current as the initiative’s technical assistance provider\, have been applying\, testing\, and evaluating different strategies. Now in their fourth year\, the sites will discuss their successes and lessons learned. \nThey will share a new model for doing things differently to better support families\, keep children safe in their homes\, and implement a public health approach that is proactive rather than reactive. \nThe five jurisdictions include: \n\nSt. Francis Hospital (Hartford\, Connecticut)\nCook County Health (Illinois)\nIndiana Department of Health\nMichigan Department of Health and Human Services\nSacramento County’s Child Abuse Prevention Council (California)\n\nTo learn more about Child Safety Forward and connect with the sites in person\, join their workshop at Social Current’s SPARK 2023 conference\, Oct. 16-17 in Bethesda\, Maryland. \nTakeaways\n\nThe core conditions for addressing child fatalities and serious injuries for maltreatment\nReflections from the five jurisdictions on lessons learned\nHow to apply evaluation results toward efforts in other communities to better support families and systems change\n\nWho Should Participate\n\nChild welfare professionals\nParents and youth impacted by child and family serving systems\nAttorneys\nPublic health professionals\nEducators\nPediatricians\nLaw enforcement\nMedia\n\n	\n\n \n\n \n \n	\n\n\n	\n \n \n Presenters\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Jasmine Brosnan\n \n Evaluation Senior Project Manager\nChild Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Zulma Costas\n \n Zulma Costas\nPain to Parenting\, Hartford CT \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Romero Davis\n \n Senior Program Manager\nSocial Current \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Jennifer Devlin\n \n Communications Consultant\nSocial Current \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Nicole DeWitt- Blumhardt\n \n Project Specialist\nCenter for Child and Family Health \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Kara Georgi\n \n Parent Partnership Associate\nChildren’s Trust Fund Alliance \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Allie Houston\n \n Prevention Programs Director\nIndiana Department of Health \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Verleaner Lane\n \n Project Director\nProject CHILD \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Patrick Nickoletti\n \n University of Saint Joseph \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Seth Persky \n \n State Administrative Manager Office of Family Advocate\nChildren’s Service Administration \nState of Michigan \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Stacy Phillips\n \n Victim Justice Program Manager\nOffice for Victims of Crime\, Department of Justice \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Laura Pinsoneault\n \n Founder and CEO\nEvaluation Plus \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Amy Templeman\n \n Senior Director of Child and Family Well-Being\nSocial Current
